Fightbox offered to let me borrow their new R10 Remix, which is like their R10 Pro, but with only a Spinner and Trackball (no stick). The easiest way to visualize what this controller is, would be a single USB computer mouse (both show up as the same mouse simultaneously), that also has built in arcade buttons for the sides, Start and Coin. The six buttons on top are actually three mouse buttons (one set per side), so if you’re going to use this controller, make sure your emulation can be used with a mouse, plus also assign other buttons as well. Basically, if a mouse and keyboard work with your current setup, this will work as well. It’s worth noting that without a stick built in, you’ll need a keyboard or other controller to navigate menu’s of course. The price is $160 with standard artwork and you can upload your own artwork for $10 more. More info and MiSTer setup below the links:

Using the Remix with MiSTer requires a bit of extra setup, but once you do it, everything flows pretty easily. I show this in detail at 1:34:22 in the livestream below. but please DO NOT suffer through the whole stream – About a full hour of it was me stupidly fumbling through mistakes (learning ;p). Here’s a written summary of MiSTer use though:
First, make SURE you’re using a power supply that’s at least 3a. I used my USB hub to power my MiSTer and ran into issues. Once I switched to my Raspberry Pi 5 PSU, there were no problems at all.
Next, you’ll need to have a keyboard connected, which will allow you to navigate menus and skip button mapping via the space bar.
Then launch the arcade core you’re looking to use, but don’t touch the keyboard after launching! After the core loads, press any of the side “pinball” buttons, until you see “Map P1” pop up in the MiSTer on-screen menu. Then use your keyboard to open the OSD and navigate to mapping a controller. When it asks to hit right to start mapping, press a side button you don’t need. Then use the keyboard’s spacebar to skip mapping the other directions. Now you can map Start, Coin and any other in-game buttons. After it’s done, save in the MiSTer menu. Lastly, check to see if the specific core you’ve loaded requires you to select “Mouse/Spinner/Trackball” in the OSD; If it does, select that and save again.
That should be it. I demo’d this with Tempest and Arkanoid and even after a power cycle, your settings are retained. Just remember to tap one of the side buttons of the Remix FIRST after loading a core to tell MiSTer it’s Player 1, otherwise the keyboard (and it’s built-in trackpad) might be marked as Player 1.
One other thing to note (as mentioned above), is the buttons on top are actually a 3-button mouse…and with MiSTer, the mouse buttons aren’t currently mappable. That said, they were automatically assigned to the controls for each game I played, so it wasn’t really an issue. It even worked the same with RePlayOS. This will definitely be a problem if you don’t like the button layout though.
Overall, I thought it performed well, but I prefer the R10 Pro, as you get everything for just a bit more money. It was more comfortable for spinner games, but it wasn’t drastic – I have no issues using my R10 Pro for spinner games, even if I have to angle it awkwardly on my desk. The Remix is a great choice for people who prefer a dedicated arcade stick for fighting games and a separate spinner / trackball controller…as long as your setup supports mouse use, of course.
Also, the livestream was a disaster (my fault), so PLEASE check the timestamps and skip all my mistakes. Without making those mistakes, I wouldn’t have learned all the great info I got for my upcoming video on the R10 Pro, but I don’t want to waste any of your time:
